Dear {usertag:name}

You are receiving this email because you indicated ‘Energy’ as one of your interests when you registered on the Transition The Grove web-site.

I have been mulling this over for some time and it now seems timely to get discussion and action going on this subject. Hopefully this will lead to a group project to reduce our fossil based energy consumption.

Why now?

  1. Our information booth at Arana Ausfest (Saturday 9 October) will have greater relevance to visitors if both the Energy and the Food & Gardens group (and maybe some others as well) are activated and ready to engage with new members.
  2. It seems likely that the government will finally have no choice but to implement a carbon price which will give more certainty to the Alternative Energy sector increasing the uptake of small scale alternative energy solutions.
  3. Beyond Zero Emissions have invested an enormous amount of (mostly pro bono) professional effort in preparing the Zero Carbon Australia Stationary Energy Plan a (170 page) detailed and costed blueprint for transitioning Australia’s stationary energy sector to 100% renewable energy in ten years. The Brisbane launch on 27 October is bound to stimulate productive discussion.
  4. Looking around The Grove there are increasing numbers of homes with solar panels. This represents a valuable accumulation of community knowledge and experience in small scale solar energy. Transition The Grove may be able to consolidate this knowledge to help prospective adopters of alternative energy solutions avoid some of the pitfalls.

Action?

  • Join in the Energy discussion forum and share your ideas and enthusiasms.
  • Come and spend some time ‘connecting’ with people at Arana Ausfest on 27 October

Cheers

John Tennock
