Planning for the Ferny Grove Station Precinct is linked to residential developments (privately funded).

Ferny Grove has a very low crime rate and a well-established social and cultural structure.

A large residential development in one area has the potential to produce major imbalances in the social and cultural structure of the area and to raise the crime rate sharply.

An example where this is happening right now is Nundah where drug crimes and assaults have become a major problem in a formerly quiet local area with the building of cooperative public housing close to the Nundah Station bringing in 300 people many of whom have been in jail according to the report I have received.

At this stage we are advised there is no information whatsoever about what sort of residential development is proposed for the Ferny Grove Station Precinct.

We need to be working pro-actively now before planning developments are put to the community at a stage where we haven’t got a hope at all of looking after community interests here.
