What do energy ratings mean?

There is a website: www.energyrating.gov.au

The more stars the more energy efficient. Seems there are up to 6 for energy efficiency but you can go beyond that and get up to 4 for super efficiency rating. (Our new LED TV got one of the Super Efficiency Rating stars and 6 of the Energy Efficiency stars).

Energy consumption is a bit more tricky. The relationship between Energy Rating and Energy Consumption needs to be looked at. You might buy a 5 star piece of equipment that has a higher energy consumption than a 4 star piece of equipment.

The energy consumption (in kWh per year) is based on (for the TV we bought) useing it 10 hours daily in recommended home viewing picture mode.

It says that energy consumption and running costs will depend on how you adjust and use the TV.

TVs displayed for sale in a shop may be set to a display picture mode which may consume more energy than the energy consumption rating indicates and may be brighter!!!
