Are you considering getting backyard chooks to help around the garden as well as for the fresh eggs? If you are in the Brisbane area please think about adopting from The Battery Hen Adoption Project [file/] [file/] at www.homesforhens.net.

These poor ladies have been locked in a small cage all their lives but with a safe and caring home they will quite happily continue laying for many more years not to mention providing pest control great fertiliser and garden weeding services.

I brought 2 home in August and after a period of adjustment they are both doing well laying eggs and doing normal “chook things” like digging dust-bathing and eating worms and bugs. Yes they look a bit rough when you first collect them but they come good really quickly.

How ’bout it? Can you make a difference in the lives of a couple of hens? Think about it!
