Here’s a company name none of us will ever have heard of but Moraitis Group is Australia’s largest fruit and vegetable wholesaler and the Chinese are buying it.

We went to the launch of World Food Day at the Customs House this week and heard the QLD Governor open the event then a lot of professorial dignitories say ‘important’ things about global food security. What was very clear was they are not talking about Australian food security. They are talking about how to make money out of ‘investing’ in countries like Africa for their food security.

What is happening with the coal seam gas industry in Eastern Australia (and QLD in particular) holds an important lesson for our food supply too. Gas prices for QLD are set to rise MANY-fold as a result of all the contracts for gas supply being written to overseas. They aren’t leaving any for Australia. Exactly the same thing will happen with our food supply.

We are already in a situation where the food producers see overseas markets as more important than the task of feeding Australia. A leader in the food industry’s view: Australian’s can import their food from China.
