Biography
* Jan McLucas was first elected to the Senate for Queensland in 1998.
* She is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing.
* Prior to entering Federal Parliament she taught as a primary school teacher in North Queensland for ten years.
* She was an active member of the Teachers Union during that time.
* Concerned about childcare Jan became President of the Cairns and District Child Care Development Association after the birth of her daughter in 1990.
* She was subsequently elected to Cairns City Council and served as a Councillor for four years.
* She lives in Cairns and has a now teenaged daughter named Alice.
