Some welcome news about the future for keeping chooks in the Moreton Bay Regional Council. They are doing a big review of local laws and the ones relating to keeping chooks are going to change to encourage people to have chooks in their back yards.
It will come in about March 2011 but once the changes go through there will not be any applications or fees. You will go on the Council website and self-assess that how you are setting up the chookyard etc meets the required conditions. If anyone complains about smell or suchlike the council will have a look at how you’ve set it up and whether it meets the required conditions.
So it will be happy egg collecting. A great step forward.
