Wally Wight has now taken on coordinating the Transport Subgroup and he is interested in cycling.

We had a long talk about local bike paths (or in the case of some “de facto or non-existent” bike paths).

It is high priority to focus on – getting the links between the top end of The Grove and the rest of Brisbane’s bike path network properly joined up.

Having cycling outings and systematically auditing the available tracks would be a good start.

Can those of us who aren’t super-fit manage the grades on some of the track?
Does it require you to go on roads? (Cars parked along it traffic)
Are there stretches where it fades away and signage is lacking to know where to pick it up again?
Are there cycle-ways to the main nodes around the area and also to the critical nodes outside the area (such as our local Councillor’s office on Samford Rd in Everton Park or to the services hub in Mitchelton – Mitchelton Library Mitchelton Meals on Wheels etc)?

Another spot is the Conavalla St – Archdale Rd corner. This strip is lethal for cyclists at the moment and there is no alternatives really. It is also very dangerous for motorists – if we kill a cyclist the consequences for us are huge. Yet often motorists are stuck in the position of having NO safe way to pass a cyclist over a long distance. So we take risks by crossing white lines or coming too close to the cyclist. Not ok for anyone.
