Food Labelling

Queensland Conservation (QCC) believes that food labelling which is providing consumers with facts about the food they purchase is a key component of good food standards policy. Using appropriate labelling on food will also provide valuable information and data to policy makers and those involved in food production distribution and retail to both measure performance and establish a regime of continuous improvement.

A national food labelling scheme should be introduced that will provide consumers information about a variety of things:

* Amount of embedded water used in production
* Embedded energy and transport distances
* Nutrition and diet
* Chemical use (in production and additives) or biological farming methods
* Genetically modified (GE) and Nano particle use
* Fair trade for primary producers
