I was once told how much energy it took to cremate a small dog. A huge amount.

There is now a Parliamentary committee examining the environmental consequences of burials and cremations to help minimise negative impacts.

Environment and Resources Committee chair Carryn Sullivan said the investigation would look at why cheaper greener alternatives for laying our loved ones to rest are not more readily available.

Public submissions are open until 14th April.

Personally I’d love to be buried vertically in a bag and have a tree planted on top.
