Computers mobile phones & TVs have a lot of very rare minerals in them that are in very limited supply globally. China has started putting bans on exporting raw supplies of some of these minerals that are mined there.
We should be looking at how to recover these resources from our “e-waste” here.
More to the point is it really waste?
Could mobile phones be given to shops like Lifeline and Vinnies rather than dumped in a disposal bin? Most of them are still very useable.
Could we offer computers and TVs on e-Bay or Freecycle or use them for longer?
Personally we keep our computers for just about ever and they do a really good job.
