Our primary water supply reservoir Enoggera Reservoir is looking delightful. We were privileged to attend a conference there last weekend – the Connecting with Forests conference. It was held at the Walkabout Creek Conference Centre.

Just being there worked magic on the spirit. Person after person commented on it. How easy it is to forget what it is like to immerse ourselves in a truly beautiful environment.

The peace. The greenery. Being surrounded by birds. The Reservoir is a peaceful wild place. Having this so close to us and being able to walk along the Araucaria Trail is such beautiful surrounds – it feels a real privilege. The forest foliage has fully recovered. It’s lush and green now.

This area is no longer called Brisbane Forest Park. It’s now part of the D’Aguilar National Park that goes right up through Mt Mee to Woodford. So we have 35000 hectares of national park continuously on our doorstep.

The Reservoir has lung fish living in it. Turtles egrets black swans – I think that is very special. Black swans are so utterly iconically Australian. Wedgetail eagles cormorants.

There is a lot of bush camping through the park but you need to know the tracks. At the moment there isn’t a printed map.

The Enoggera Reservoir wall was raised 7 metres after the 1974 flood. The Reservoir is now the best its been for years.
