Expected to be there briefly but ended up spending an hour and a half there.

First of all ran into well-known Brisbane Permaculture identities Adrian and Carmel directing traffic in the carpark.

Then after making it through the coffee & cup-cakes section we were tested for fitness by Vicky.

Fitness testing involved checking blood pressure resting pulse rate blood glucose weight %body fat water content of body grip strength and then VO2 score (oxygen utilization score in mm) on an ‘exercise bike’. We were given our measurements and comparison ideal/ normal levels. Vicky was very helpful in suggesting an exercise program that I would be able to manage working on a cross-trainer we have at home.

On to Floristry where we bought a bunch of kangaroo paws for $5. Beautiful. They gave advice about a flower preservative: bleach sugar citric acid (all in very small amounts) added to fresh water.

On to the Horticulture section and the plants for sale. Busy! This plant sale is well-known (?twice a year) and people come in droves. The Sale if from 9am-noon but those in the know come from 8am-8.30am to get choice pick. We were handed a waxed cardboard tray to hold our purchases. Most of the plants are ornamental or natives. I was particularly interested in herb and vege seedlings ($1.50 a punnet) and got quite a lot and two highly coloured ornamental ground covers ($2.50 each).

Then we watched Rosie a darling little Yorkshire Terrier being groomed and having her long coat expertly clipped by one of the Dog Grooming course staff. Grovely TAFE is the only TAFE in SE QLD now that does the hydrotherapy and dog grooming courses.
