{accordion}Drive around the boundaries of The Grove::

While you can’t drive right around the boundaries because not all the ridges have a road along them this scenic drive is quite an eye-opener for discovering our region and the beautiful environment we live in. There are some places to stop for picnics or a coffee. There is scenic lookouts a museum a zoo beautiful walks shops. This tour takes you past most of the main points in The Grove.

Starting at Arana Library Cobbity Cres Arana Hills over the road from All Saints Anglican Church

  • Follow Cobbity Cres down to Patricks Rd turn left into Patricks Rd and right into Ferny Way at the lights.
  • Continue on past Ferny Hills State School the Ferny Hills Swimming Pool and the George Willmore Park down through the shopping centre in the bottom of Ferny Way crossing Samford Rd into Ferny Grove station with the Ferny Grove Tavern on your right.
  • Go through the station car park to the right and across the rail line then right into Conavalla St turn right into Archdale Rd then left into Lanita Rd. Lanita Rd is the route of the old rail line that went to Samford and Dayboro before it was pulled up after the train accident. Go to the end and see if you can locate where the walking / cycle path continues through the forest to come out at Lanita Crt in the Camp Mountain / Samford Valley area.  To the left and right are high hills and forests which are the catchments and watersheds for Kedron Brook with Kedron Brook running close to Lanita Rd between them.
  • Return along Lanita Rd into Archdale Rd and up to McGinn Rd going past Ferny Grove State School on your right and Ferny Grove Shopping Village on your left.
  • Turn right into McGinn Rd then left into McAlroy Rd. At the corner of McGregor Way is a park with a lagoon in it on Cedar Creek that you can stop and walk along.
  • Continue along McAlroy Rd to Cedar Creek Rd and the historic Cedar Creek Community Hall.
  • Return along McAlroy Rd turning right into Upper Kedron Rd going past St Andrews Catholic School on your left.
  • Turn right into Cemetery Rd and stop and have a brief look at the old Cemetery.
  • Turn right then left down Canvey Rd and right at Levitt St. This area is cows and farms along Cedar Creek.
  • On to Cedar Creek Rd going west you look up to Mt Nebo across dairy farms and Cedar Creek.
  • Turn right into Lochinvar Rd. Right into Trossachs Place for a view out across The Grove suburbs.
  • Continuing on along Lochinvar Rd to Sutton Court you can see to the ocean at some points with good views across ranges and forests on either side.
  • Sutton Court eventually turns sharply back on itself and from here a very steep walking/riding track climbs up to the Camp Mountain Recreation Area.  This is the limit of the Kedron Brook catchment.
  • Continuing along Sutton Court into the Pine Rivers catchment you reach Lanita Crt.
  • Turn right into Lanita Court. At the end is where the path through the forest emerges from Lanita Rd in Ferny Grove. This used to be the railway line until it was pulled up after the big train crash. If you walked along quite a way you’d find a plaque in remembrance of the event.
  • Go back down Lanita Crt and continue along McLean Rd South then right into Camp Mountain Rd.
  • Turn right Samford Rd and return to The Grove from the Samford direction through Brisbane Forest Park. Check out Lomandra Picnic Area & Ironbark Gully Picnic Area on the left and the Maureen Lawrence Park and Wahminda Grove (tennis courts picnic area lake Scout Hall) on the right. Further along on the old Woolshed site is the new development of Woolshed Grove.
  • Just before the Tennis Centre on Samford Rd turn left at England St into Patricks Rd passing Patricks Rd State School (Patricks Rd shops are a little further along) then left into Caesar Rd to the water towers and continue on along Plucks Rd.
  • Turn left into South Pine Rd past a small industrial estate and left into Bunya Rd to check out where Bunya House is on the right. Arlington Shopping Centre is further down Bunya Rd.
  • Turn around at Bunya House and return back along South Pine Rd and right into Dawson Parade in Arana Hills. Here there are several shopping centres The Hills Community Centre the Leslie Patrick Park which is a major sports venue and the Arana Leagues Club close to Kedron Brook.
  • Turn left at Casey St which takes you past Grovely TAFE and back onto Dawson Parade.
  • Cross the railway line on Dawson Parade near Grovely Station  and go up past St Williams Catholic School and St Williams Church on the left turn left into Fergus St.
  • Turn left into Arnell St left into Elmstead St left into Whitby St left into Rolleston St right into March St left into Pershing St right into Blaker Rd then right into Church St and up past the Catholic Monastery coming out onto Samford Rd at Mitchelton High School.
  • Turn right into Samford Rd going past Keperra Sanctuary Retirement Village along to Settlement Rd.
  • Going past Great Western Super Centre there is the quarry on your left that is in the hillside that is part of The Grove – the catchment boundary runs along the top of Enoggera Hill the high point. The range in front of you on the right side is also in The Grove with the catchment boundary running along the top. This area is all part of the Enoggera Military Camp with no through access permitted.
  • Continue along Settlement Rd leaving The Grove and entering The Gap. Turn right when you get to Waterworks Rd.
  • Stop at the Brisbane Forest Park Headquarter and Information Centre where there is a wildlife zoo with an under-creek display birds and displays and a restaurant. There are beautiful walks by the Enoggera Reservoir starting from here (this is our water supply dam).
  • Continue on along Waterworks Rd as it turns into Mount Nebo Rd. This is the catchment boundary between The Grove (and Cedar Creek catchment) and The Gap (and Enoggera Creek catchment).
  • Turn right into Brompton Rd to a dead end at a property boundary. The view across The Grove is excellent. This point is very close to the new estate at the end of Canvey Rd in Upper Kedron.
  • Turning around go back to Mt Nebo Rd and continue out through Brisbane Forest Park to turn right into the Camp Mountain Recreation Area. This is the highest point in The Grove and there are great views to the CBD. There are picnic tables and toilets. This is the start of the steep track down to Sutton Court.  (A little further along Mt Nebo(just outside The Grove) is Dr Red Nutriceuticals and vineyard where you can sample purchase and admire the view. The road continues up to Mt Glorious.)
  • Returning back towards The Gap stop in to McAfees Lookout on the left hand side.
  • Continuing back along Mt Nebo Rd take the left turn down to Bellbird Grove with its ovals picnic facilities and walks through the forest including past old gold areas. This area is close to the dairy farms passed earlier near Ross Rd in Upper Kedron.
  • Return along Mt Nebo Rd Waterworks Rd and Settlement Rd.
  • Turn left into Mungarie St Keperra at the lights.
  • Continue into Cobalt Rd to the end and discover where the paintball range is then right into Glengarry Rd down to Upper Kedron Rd.
  • In Upper Kedron Rd close to Glengarry Rd have a look through the fence at “Ferny Grove Lake” with its attractive wetlands and birds. On the right hand side of Upper Kedron Rd is the Keperra Picnic Ground and the Ferny Grove Waste Transfer Station.
  • Turn back into Samford Rd going towards Keperra turn left into Gilston St and go down past the Dallas Rd shops crossing the railway line next to Keperra Station into Mooney St.
  • Left into Duggan St to overlook the Keperra Country Golf Club.
  • Right into Doorey St left into Duggan St left into Mooney St left into Pearse St left into Hanran St and you are looking down at the Kedron Brook soccer grounds behind Grovely State School.
  • Left into Madsen St then right into Dawson Pde and left back along Samford Rd to Ferny Grove turning left at the Ferny Grove Bowls Sports and Social Club opposite the Ferny Grove Police Station into Tramway St.
  • Left between the bowls club and the Brisbane Tramway Museum takes you up to the Upper Kedron Recreation Reserve where there is an AFL oval a cricket oval and the Arana Contract Bridge Club.
  • Back down again if it is Sunday you could visit the Brisbane Tramway Museum.
  • Further along Tramway St to Ferny Grove State High School turn right into Arbor St cross the train tracks and turn left into the Ferny Grove Station carpark where the lorrikeets come home to roost each night and where the Ferny Grove Markets are held on Sunday mornings.

This is a reconstruction of what an old site must have been like. Gold was mined in this area.

It is in the bush behind Patricks Road State School. Enter through the bottom (right) parents car park and walk through the bush.

It has huts and a stone fire ring with log seats and a ‘gold mine’ pit and a dunny toilet (without thunderbox).
