Most of the clocks that find their way to Repair Cafe The Grove are driven by electronic ‘quartz’ mechanisms. Compared with traditional clockwork mechanisms these are amazingly accurate. They are also amazingly cheap because the internal gears are made of plastic which, ticking away all day and everyday, wear out quite quickly compared with the brass gears in a clockwork mechanism. Replacement mechanisms are available and we can usually swap in a new one.
