Once upon a time South East Queensland’s sewage treatment plants discharged the effluent to natural receiving waters such as the Brisbane River and Moreton Bay. Today the effluent is undergoing advanced treatment processes. What does this mean for Trade Waste producers and regulators?
Discharge of trade waste to sewer and landfill is subject to stringent acceptance standards. Penalties for breaching agreements or licenses can have severe consequences with fines up to $5 million and jail terms or sewer disconnection.
