Ferny Grove has high quality clay for pottery. (Gardeners have to deal with it!)

There was a big commercial pottery in the area where Ferny Grove Station now is (close to Conavalla St).
Some of the kiln bricks have been salvaged and will hopefully re-emerge as a historical relic.

Some locals are keen potters including John Booth of Ferny Grove who has made a study of ancient Etruscian pottery and he is producing replicas of this sort of pottery from local clays and has a kiln.

Students at Ferny Grove State High School have access to a kiln and pottery lessons.
