Talking with Chris last night. He was talking about his stores of wealth which he regards as crucial for preparing for the coming times.
While he has bought gold he also buys physical items. For example if he needs 2 screws he buys a packet and keeps the rest in store. He has accummulated a large collection of materials that can be used to make and do just about anything.
Ah! This is what is now being called ‘clutter’ and businesses are setting up to tie elderly relatives to the bed while their storehouses are raided and taken to the tip.
It seems that storehouses are a direct threat to the consumer economy. In other words they are central to resilience. Consumers must be taught to throw away most of what they have bought and paid for. They can never have enough. They must create room to continue buying more like a bulimic purging themselves by vomiting up the food they have eaten to make room to force more down.
I go back to the fables of the grasshopper and the ant. The ant is a hoarder working all summer to build a store. So are the bees. So are the squirrels gathering nuts to prepare for the hard long time when food is not available.
