A foreign labour force is being brought in – for example Leighton Contractors plan to bring in as many as 1100 foreign workers.
At the same time there are people here with qualifications for these jobs. There is also the major issue of training our own people to give them the skills.
We need to think very carefully about who are the real winners when Australian resources are owned to a big degree by foreign interests who bring in foreign workers and export the profits. Who are the real winners.
