This site is significant to the local indigenous population.

Keperra which derives its name from the Aboriginal word “kipper” meaning young man or boy before initiation was used for male initiation.

The site itself would have been a high point in the landscape and used as a place for lookout and signalling especially during times of ceremony.

Today nearly half the Indigenous youth population for North Brisbane live in the local area.

The centre will continue to play a vital role in providing for the local Aboriginal people as a place of gathering together for healing support sharing and learning.
