Australia is one of the fastest-growing eBay mobile markets. As a nation we made more than 87000 eBay purchases in July 2010 nearly doubling in six months.
That translates to about 19 purchases made on eBay mobile from here in The Grove in the month of July 2010.
The global and faceless nature of online shopping can present problems.
Buying from an online seller based in Australia you still have the basic consumers rights under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 but this may not be the case with private auctions or purchases from overseas-based websites.
The question also arises how to obtain verifiable contact details of the seller. We need to read terms and conditions carefully and keep copies of correspondence.
In the context of local here in The Grove while it does provide us with convenience and access to goods we might not be able to purchase locally without having to drive our cars to some distant locality to shop it doesn’t do anything to generate local commerce here in The Grove.
Local business and markets local manufacture and innovation and entrepreneurship are the lifeblood of resilience.
