The Bunya Tip gas flare system started burning refuse gas from tip waste on 17 September 2010. So far it’s doing around 200 cubic metres/hour – mostly methane.
This is a huge local environmental achievement. Methane is a very destructive greenhouse gas. We congratulate the Moreton Bay Regional Council on a major environmental achievement in greenhouse gas reduction.
This compares with the environmental benefit of introducing sewerage. Major benefit. Major harm reduction.
The cost for the system was $1million.
If sufficient gas flows during the trial period a 0.3megawatt generator is to be insalled to make our own green and renewable power.
