Subject: Coal Seam Gas Industry (moratorium – care for land
& people)
Dear friends
We spent a lot of time debating this matter on Saturday and geographically mapping our vulnerability and possible impacts ( immediate and long term).
We promised to send out the e-petition for a moratorium so landowners can get advice and protect themselves and their livelihoods as the energy companies drill another 9045 wells.
Our greatest concerns are for
1. water supplies ( for drinking and farming)
2. groundwater dependent landowners and townships in SEQ
3. contamination of our good quality agricultural land everywhere
4. water and food security
5. lack of community consultation before any roll out of invasive exploration
6. lack of human rights for landowners and rural townships/ communities in SEQ and elsewhere as energy companies trespass on properties without permission/ warning.
7. No policy or legislation to assist custodianship of the land ( this must be how our first nations felt!)
8. Concern over the power given to energy companies by the current state government.
9. Concern that local and federal government does not protect the land or our people.
10. Did we learn anything from the coal seam mine disaster last week?
11. Who is responsible for locking the gate? ( moratorium on exploration review legislation for sustainability revoke licences to export)
