While these web-based campaign groups are enormously effective in getting the issues they promote electronically responded to several of us are starting to react against the presumption that we should keel over and follow their lead.
Just because an issue is placed on Getup or Avaaz doesn’t mean we have to agree with it.
Who places the issues there that get promoted?
Where is the depth of exploration of the issues? The debate and working through the arguments.
We would like to have informed discussion with the different points of views considered and weighed.

Father Frank referred to a deep body of ethical consideration on a wide range of issues that had already been worked through and was available as a reference to bring to discussions so that they weren’t superficial or missing thoughtful understandings and experience and research.
