There was an active local branch of home-brewers meeting in Ferny Grove but has gone dormant although there is a very active skilled group meeting in Chelmer who would no doubt support us if we wanted to get active again locally here. Some very fine wines get made in SE QLD by locals.
The Year 12 Chemistry course at Ferny Grove Senior High School includes wine-making and is known for winning prizes at the annual show. Staff were linked to the Ferny Grove wine-making group when it was active.
Piccabeen Community Centre also had wine-making courses and the leaders of that were part of the Ferny Grove group.
We do still have locals making wine.
Have you learned wine-making at Ferny Grove Senior High School or Piccabeen? Why not keep your skills going and share them by helping re-activate the local home-brewers group? Log on to Transition The Grove and join a sub-group and Forum discussing home-brewing.
Some locals are actively brewing their own beer or making wine. Kits for beer-making can be bought locally at Kmart Arana Plaza and a lot of beer brews up very readily and easily and is very drinkable. (Wine-making takes a bit more skill to satisfy friends’ palates!)
Are you brewing your own? Are you interested in re-activating the local home-brewers group and meeting from time to time to swap knowledge and try each other’s brews? Log on to Transition The Grove and join a sub-group and Forum discussing home-brewing.
