Clean coal project scrapped

Queensland’s “clean coal” project ZeroGen has quietly died. The Government has walked away from the project and the clean coal power plant has been scrapped.

Only the clean-up of the environment after the project is still under way. This involves cleaning up the central Queensland area where drilling occurred to capture carbon in underground reserves.

The failed project has cost Queensland $116.5 million and the Commonwealth $42 million.
