One thing I have learned by following local resilience issues is that ‘waste’ is a very very hot topic.
What we put in trailers or our green or yellow bins or by roadside verge throw-outs is being eyed off by big players who see it as big big money.
We went to two big waste forums and they were both highly charged with huge debates among multiple players. This is a ‘raging’ topic.
What we are seeing is the sharks moving in to claim ownership of what they recognise as an extremely valuable resource.
In the meantime we are denied access to retrieve any value from it locally at all. We are literally being bled dry on this one.
Our suburbs should have the right to reclaim recycle and reuse as much as possible of the value from our local “waste” streams as possible before any of it goes out of the suburbs or is accessed by predatory profiteers from outside our suburbs.
