We’ve just been learning to use two of the local places to hang banners (the Ferny Grove Police Station fence; and the poles in Leslie Patrick Park at the corner of Dawson Parade and Patricks Rd).
There are other places too especially the bottom of Ferny Way.
To hang the banner on the Ferny Grove Police Station fence we had to speak to the Senior Sgt. Easy to hang the banner physically although sometimes not easy to get a good spot it is so popular. Not sure about having banners there for towns 30 kilometres away like Dayboro! Also this site misses out being seen by people who live in Keperra (coming home from the city).
To hang a banner in Leslie Patrick Park we had to book by filling in a form (available from the Moreton Bay Regional Council website). A very legal document and quite restrictive and they really want bookings well ahead. No charge but don’t wait until the last minute.
The Leslie Patrick Park site you can only hang the banner there for 2 weeks prior to the event.
Putting it up on the two poles proved to be MUCH harder than we had anticipated. We definitely needed a good extension ladder and we used 3 people to do the job including holding the ladder very firmly. It is a long way up and the banner pulls quite a lot sideways.
Make sure the banner has good LONG ropes as the poles are a long way apart.
There are luggs on the poles to tie the banner ropes to but they are not aligned on each pole.
We did a good job getting our banner secure and straight. Another banner was poorly tied and obscured quite a bit of the information on it.
We had learned the lesson: big clear information nothing extra dark colours on a white background.
Our banner is 3 metres by 900mm which seems a good size. It cost $340 which included $40 to have stick-on date so it could be reused with another date next year. Actually we didn’t need a stick-on date this year but could have a stick-on date to put over it next year. Sticking on the dates is a bit of an artform – easy to get bubbles and scrunches. Anyway fun to learn.
