Apology Anniversary

This Sunday 13 February is the anniversary of the Federal Parliament’s apology to members of the Stolen Generations. The Commission is pleased once again to collaborate with the Murri Ministry Team to host a ceremony to mark this important anniversary. The ceremony will take place on Monday 14 February 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Holy Rosary Primary School Roblane Street Windsor. Students from Catholic schools from around the Archdiocese will join with Aboriginal elders to remember the Stolen Generations the Apology and the commitments made to right the wrongs.

Peace Message

This week a group of Northern Territory Aboriginal elders issued a statement about the hardship experienced by Aboriginal people under the Northern Territory Emergency Response (NTER) and called on Australians to speak out about it. A group of eminent Australians also issued a statement calling for an end to the NTER. To read these two statements go to our Commission blog at http://cjpcbrisbane.wordpress.com/

A Better Way

Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation (ANTaR) have released A Better Way a booklet telling the story of 13 Aboriginal community-controlled organisations in the Northern Territory. These success stories show how effective participation by Aboriginal people in the management of programs addressing community needs and problems is a better way of dealing with Indigenous disadvantage than Government-imposed measures. You can find a link to the booklet on the front page of the ANTaR web site at http://www.antar.org.au/
