Dear {usertag:name}

The History Subgroup hasn’t met yet but there are lots of local history threads that are worth becoming aware of.

There has been a lot of local activity in the local history area in the Pine Hills region over the years. For example I have a book in front of me by Merle McGovern Daphne Gibson and Rosaleen Prouse: Living Stones: A 50-year history of St William’s Catholic Parish.  There are a lot of local history resources in the Arana Hills Library.

Can I encourage you to start using the Our History Forum  on this website to build up local information and discussions. Have a look at what is there already and think about what could be added. More importantly think about who you might encourage to join to ensure that we are reaching all the people interested in local history here.

Several approaches we could take with the History Forum. One would be to work through existing groups. The other would be to meet together and think about what might be done to develop the history of the upper Kedron Brook valley (The Grove) specifically.

Suggestions of where to meet are also important to explore.

My role with the subgroups is to help them early on to get actively started and to channel new people who are interested through to the group as they join Transition The Grove.  The idea is to have it taken over by someone who has a personal interest in the area who is prepared to work to carry it forward.

All suggestions welcomed.

There are several approaches to communicate initially: Go to Groups on the website and send the group a Bulletin or email members via the link there. Have the discussion on the Forum. Email me via the Contact Us tab and I’ll forward suggestions on to the group. If you are happy to have your email address shared with the group I can start putting together a group email but I can’t do that without individual approval.

Two specific things coming up:

1. Radio YYY 87.6FM’s 15th anniversary. It would be good to organise something to celebrate this event and really bring it into focus locally.

2. Arana Hills Library: Local History Workshop

When:  31/03/2011 01:00 PM – 03:00 PM

Description

A Local History workshop featuring well-known local historians all of whom have published work and/ or extensive research backgrounds.
Not sure whether this is an RSVP event.
