The redevelopment of Ferny Grove station will include doubling up the track from Keperra but will also mean the loss of the seldom used crossover stub line to the west of the station. This is fine for ‘double ended’ electric commuter trains as the driver simple goes to the other end which becomes the ‘front’ for the return journey.

However with steam trains with a locomotive pulling carriages the locomotive must uncouple then use the stub line to get to the other side of the platform then back to ‘rear’ of the train which now becomes the ‘front.

The last ever steam train to Ferny Grove ran today.
