Here is a suggestion.

There is an enormously successful program operating out of a Southern Highlands town called Bundanoon. It is the Bundy on Tap program. They got the most extraordinary worldwide press coverage. It has been great for local business in so many ways.

A key feature of the program is having refill stations around the locality where people can refil their drinking water bottles. This is different from water fountains.

Refill stations would be a great addition around the district and a valuable carbon reduction action.

The Bundy on Tap initiative (a Transition initiative) hit a chord world-wide and has put the spotlight on the issues surrounding single-use packaged water. Importantly it reinforced the fact that individuals and small communities can effect real change. Numerous towns cities and municipalities have been in touch wanting information on how Bundanoon went bottle water free.

The main impact of what they have done is hopefully that people think twice about purchasing a bottle of water when they could as easily drink from a fountain or fill up from a water station or tap. They encourage the installation of public water stations/ fountains for for businesses and government to consider installing filtered water dispensers. However it is not the intention of Bundy on Tap to encourage consumption of filtered tap water when in most cases municipal tap water has already been filtered to high standards.

Bundanoon currently has four public water refill stations delivering filtered tap water. Refillable bottles with the Bundy on Tap logo are sold at outlets throughout the town and are very popular.
