This was received from The Greens. They are encouraging people to write in support of a container deposit scheme to the Prliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Waste Senator Don Farrell. Not sure who Scott Ludlam is but we think the container deposit scheme makes sense.
11 billion opportunities
Dear friend
Australians use more than 11 billion drink containers every year. That’s why I have drafted legislation to introduce a national container deposit scheme – to put a 10 cent value on beverage containers that would otherwise end up in landfill.
The only thing standing in the way of a national container deposit scheme now is the federal government.
The new Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Waste Senator Don Farrell has responsibility for this issue.
Please write to Senator Farrell today asking him to stop delaying the introduction of a national scheme. http://greensmps.org.au/write-senator-farrell-about-national-container-deposit-scheme
South Australia’s scheme has been a roaring success for 30 years and the Northern Territory has just introduced its own scheme. As a Senator for South Australia Don Farrell knows container deposit schemes work but the federal government is stalling.
Every day the federal government delays the introduction of a national container deposit scheme an extra nine million recyclable containers go into landfill.
Please take a few minutes to write to Don Farrell today – it is time we had a national container deposit scheme.
Yours sincerely
Scott Ludlam
P.S. Did you know that almost 80% of all the litter collected on Clean up Australia Day last year was from packaging? You can help reduce that figure by writing to Don Farrell today.
