Just had a lovely time down at the High School’s annual Expo of all their programs. Quite a challenge for new parents and students to choose what they do.
There is a new 3D printer in manual arts and the students design things like robots and light fittings which they then laser-cut out on and make up.
Languages is a very lively centre. The Indonesian program is winning kudos at the moment.
Agriculture was showcased with live pregnant sheep some calves little chickens a tractor and honey that the students had harvested.
Science was great fun and great for the palette too with a chocolate face cream that was very smooth but had ingredients including beeswax and borax. Soap was being made out of Lux flakes metholated spirits and glycerine. The students wine ginger beer cheese and chocolate-making efforts were on display with some yummy samples. The chemistry and physics experiments were packed with people and we learned a lot about making polymers like nylon and polystyrene. Also non-Newtonian fluids.
Maths was a hive of activity and the models were a lot of fun.
Drama students were having a fabulous time in a big circle doing high energy activities. Senior students were acting out a serious political performance.
Having a marvellous time as always were some of the music students singing and playing instruments.
The Social Sciences and Geography teachers were well worth a visit. They get to teach so many different valuable subjects including community tourism urban design law history.
Lovely to see some of our local mums there helping serve take-aways or subject shopping for their children.
This school is very much our community’s future. The affectionate and caring and happy involvement of the teachers was very apparent. A good feel.
