Why are fares rising on public transport so much? State Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk says it is to cope with the region’s growing population. Growing and improving our network.

So we are paying more for public transport because we don’t have a sustainable population policy!

Fares are now high enough that they are encouraging people to drive more than to use public transport.

Fares went up 15% on 2nd January to $3.05 for a 1-zone trip. They are due to rise another 15% in 2013 and again in 2014. Incidentally do the maths that is not a 45% increase in total but a 52% increase over 2011 prices given the way compounding works.
