Serious money now has its attention on making waste carbon pay.

Attention is focussed on a technique to inject waste carbon into oil reservoirs to increase the viscosity of oil and well as production yields. This has got an economic value because it liberate the oil.

Technologies are being developed to use carbon emissions as a feedstock for new products such as a cement-like product. MAP or mineralisation via aqueous precipitation mixes water with the gas from power plants in such a way as to form solid mineral carbonates and bicarbonates. These have use in construction. It has the potential to capture carbon at a profit rather than a cost. It also avoids emissions from other products it replaces. The overall process is not just carbon neutral – it is carbon negative.
