Dr Rod Straw founded the Australian Animal Cancer Foundation and Animal Cancer Care at Albany Creek’s Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre. He is dedicated to the concept of ‘translational cancer research’. While the centre’s work grew out of the need to care for animals it also provides the opportunity to help develop human cancer treatments. Pets share the same environments as people and due to the similarities in types of cancer they suffer it is possible the animals have developed cancer for the same reason as the humans.
