Congratulations to Ferny Grove State High School which was one of 10 schools to take out an award as part of the Queensland 2010 Keep Australia Beautiful Green and Healthy Schools Awards.

Ferny Grove State High school won the Year of Environmental Sustainability award for its work throughout the year to incorporate environmental sustainability into learning and school operations.

Ferny Grove State High School is a Land for Wildlife School encouraging creek revegetation and water quality analysis through Science SOSE or agricultural studies. It’s also a solar school and a leader in waterwise activities.

Students have championed environmental sustainability education and undertaken a range of programs to support green activities in the playground and the classroom.

The Year of Environmental Sustainability (YES) in Queensland schools is an initiative of the Queensland Department of Education and Training. Throughout the school year schools have been encouraged to explore the themes of energy efficiency waste minimisation biodiversity improvement and water conservation and to share their stories and ideas through the YES challenges and regional symposia.
