Dear {usertag:name}

The Community Garden is definitely off and running – the vision is growing.

Just had a chat to Zeki Murad who is the President of the newly formed Hills District Community Garden Group (which is not quite the name we’d have chosen but it does provide for membership from right across the upper Kedron Brook valley). Jo Barkworth is its Secretary.

The first project is going to be at the Patricks Rd State School and more sites are already being explored including a big site in Upper Kedron.

Funding and support for equipment will also be sought.

Talks are underway with both Cr Brian Battersby and Cr Andrew Wines.

The group already has three people with horticulture qualifications and a Permaculture designer as members keen to share.

If you want to be involved come along to the next meeting which will be happening at 8:30am next Saturday 28th May at the Patricks Rd State School near the Prep School.

The main focus will be on investigating the site that the School has made available. Patricks Rd State School’s P&C are giving excellent support to estalish the garden at the School. It is also a good model for how this can be done as a joint project between the community and a school. They will provide insurance cover for the project in the School grounds.

The meeting is also to consider things like what plants we can use in the garden how much soil we need (Steve Jones has generously offered support with providing soil for it – it will probably be to fill several long waist-high garden ‘tanks’ that are already available there).

The garden group will have access to a shed to use so we can set ourselves up with a kettle and the makings of tea/coffee etc.

It is expected the meeting will last about an hour and a half.

Come along and meet everyone. This is a practical project and we will be looking forward to working and learning and growing together.

Morning tea will be available.

This community garden activity is an excellent example of what Transition The Grove seeks to support in local community development – we want to facilitate such activities happening in every way we can locally.

So once again the details of the meeting:

8:30am Saturday 28th May at Patricks Rd State School at the Prep School.

Hope to see you there
